ROSS Compressor: An OTA-based gem, this new ROSS Compressor is a spot-on sonic reproduction on the coveted “Era 2” Gray Box version and features a new Bright mode that adds clarity to cut through the mix or enhance dark-sounding pickups and amps.
ROSS Chorus: Featuring a bucket-brigade, true-analogue design with a V3207 chipset, the ROSS Chorus nails classic chorus and vibrato tones.
ROSS Fuzz: The brand-new ROSS Fuzz pedal puts a special Bud Ross-designed circuit from the Kustom Electronics era into a rock-solid, road-ready effects pedal. If you’re looking for a fuzz with a unique character, this is it.
ROSS Distortion: Modelled around the iconic 1970s topology, the famous ROSS Distortion excels in delivering a natural tube-like overdrive and amplification with both Germanium (Era 2) and Silicon (Era 3) modes.

A History of ROSS Pedals
In the ever-evolving world of effects pedals, few names have a history as intriguing as ROSS.
Born in West Virginia, Bud Ross, the genius behind ROSS, relocated to Kansas when he was merely 12. Unbeknownst to many, Bud’s journey into music started not in electronics but in the rhythm of bass guitars. Yet, even in his early bass-playing days, Ross was not one to settle. He found the bass amps of his era lacking, leading him to craft his very own.
From Auto Upholstery to Iconic Amps
1960 saw Bud Ross at the Soc-Hop in Overland Park, crossing paths with Dave Gates, an auto upholsterer with a knack for tuck-and-roll jobs. This chance encounter, which culminated in Gates padding Ross’ bass amp, became the inspiration for Kustom Amps’ distinct tuck-and-roll cabinets. These unique designs soon graced stages worldwide, backing legends like Creedence Clearwater Revival, Johnny Cash, and The Jackson 5.
By 1964, Ross took a leap of faith, quitting his job to establish Kustom in Chanute, Kansas, enticed by the incentives the small business association provided.
More Than Just Amps
While the ROSS Compressor of the early '70s might have initially been overshadowed by Bud Ross’s other achievements, its significance became clear when it became a key ingredient in the rich, distinctive tones of Trey Anastasio of Phish. This recognition triggered a frenzy, with guitarists from all corners seeking the coveted Ross Compressors.
Over time, as demand surged and prices skyrocketed, several boutique creators tried recreating this magic.
The Modern ROSS Era
Today, as ROSS Electronics releases its series of pedals, it’s evident that the brand’s legacy, rich history, and commitment to quality remain intact.
